EnvyZen investigating benefits of CBD against coronavirus – reducing lung damage

In our previous article we have been investigating general positive effect of CBD and immune system rejuvenating. Today we will cover more specific area, that have been proven in recent studies.

One way that CBD tends to decrease the “cytokine storm” that destroys the lungs and kills many COVID-19 patients is to raise the levels of a natural peptide called apelin, believed to decrease inflammation and whose levels are significantly decreased in the face of this storm.

In their laboratory model of deadly adult respiratory distress syndrome, or ARDS, researchers from the Dental College of Georgia and the Medical College of Georgia reported the potential of CBD to increase oxygen levels and minimize inflammation and physical lung damage this summer.

In the journal Cannabis and Cannabinoid Science, researchers stated this summer that treatment with CBD decreased unnecessary inflammation of the lungs, allowing increases in lung function, heatier oxygen levels, and restoring some of the classic structural damage to the lungs with ARDS. The researchers then said further work was needed, including discovering how the major improvements were created by CBD as well as human experiments, before it could be used as part of a COVID-19 treatment regimen.

CBD has proved to be a natural apelin agonist.  In the lungs, the quantities of Apelin are reliably detectable, one of the reasons it appears to be a successful biomarker. Other cannabinoids, such as tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), are useful in combating COVID-19, in addition to CBD, by reducing the risk of cytokine floods, ARDS, and mortality (4,5). Cannabis can prove useful to improve the side of those battling the virus and others fighting to rid the world of COVID-19 through future study.

Very important event took place recently which will ease things with researching and developing the CBD industry. In two landmark elections, Congress passed the Marijuana Opportunity, Reinvestment, and Expungement (MORE) Act and the Medical Marijuana Testing Act, signifying a growing move towards legalization of cannabis.
